Self-care is possibly one of my favorite things in the world and it’s probably what I spend 25% of my day on. It’s so important, especially during the wild time we’ve been having during the past year or so!
In this article, I’ll be sharing four of my favorite self-care/beauty/health-enhancing tools that I use [pretty much] every day, along with their benefits and what I love most about them. These tools are great for improving sleep, skin health, mental health, physical wellness, oral health, you name it! I’ve had my acupressure pad for over a year now and I’m obsessed with it. I’m a huge fan of acupuncture and since my acupuncture clinic has been closed due to the pandemic, this has been a nice tool to use until my acupuncture practitioner is available again. There’s not much research to support the anecdotal claims relating to acupressure pads, but acupressure (in Traditional Chinese Medicine) has been used to unblock energy pathways in the body to facilitate healing, pain relief, muscle tension, insomnia, headaches, and much more.
I love laying on my acupressure pad because it’s relaxing, it allows me to focus on healing and resting, and it helps me sleep better at night. I feel much more limber and alive after I lay on it. I also love to put my feet on it when I’m working because it helps me stay focused and calm.
In all honesty, owning a heating pad has changed my life. It’s all I’ve ever craved while my uterus and back are aching during my period. The heat is so soothing for aches, pains, muscle knots, and even just a bad day. Wrapping my upper back in heat is now part of my every day, as I have some gnarly knots and chronic pain up there! In fact, it’s wrapped around my shoulders as I write this! I love cozying up with my heating pad during cold days and each night as I’m tucking myself into bed. It helps me fall asleep faster and surprisingly, I rarely overheat while I’m laying under the covers with it (don’t worry, it has an automatic two-hour shut-off timer!).
I love using the acupressure pad directly after heating up my muscles with the heating pad. I feel like the two make a great duo and a great gift for anyone who would like a bit more comfort in their life (hint: Mother’s Day is approaching)!
OctoVie Skincare Brush
Invented by a badass female skin specialist here in Rhode Island, the OctoVie brush is a fun little self-care and beauty tool with 3-in-1 benefits to simultaneously cleanse, exfoliate and massage away dull skin cells and impurities for a gentler, hygienic choice over dry, nylon brushes, bath cloths or loofahs.

Copper Tongue Scraper
Who doesn’t love fresh breath and an enhanced sense of taste? Copper tongue scrapers, often used in Ayurveda, are simple, affordable tools that have so many benefits!
Bacteria can’t live on copper, so scraping all the gunk off your tongue improves oral hygiene, pairing nicely with your typical brush/floss routine, and instantly freshens your breath by killing the bacteria chilling in your mouth.
Your sense of taste will be enhanced and there’s even anecdotal evidence that tongue scraping will curb cravings. For example, if I eat a piece of candy, then scrape the residue off my tongue, my body won’t crave that candy again as much because the sugar and taste of the candy won’t linger as much in my mouth, which is part of what causes cravings!
